Candyman

In Candyman, a horrifying tale with an unexpectedly original twist, Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) is a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois who views urban mythology as nothing more than an academic exercise. After learning that a signature murder in the projects of Chicago is being attributed to the mythological Candyman (Tony Todd), Helen journeys into the crime-ridden area to conduct interviews and write a doctoral thesis about this urban legend, which she believes will secure her scholarly reputation and make her a star in academia. But as Helen begins her research, she becomes caught in a series of mysterious and deadly events and even finds herself trapped by evidence that points to her as a murderer.
