Writer/director John Singleton's modern-day street romance stars Janet Jackson as the reclusive Justice, who works as a hairdresser and writes poetry to cope with the heartbreak of a lover lost to a gangster's gun and a mother lost to alcoholism and suicide. Meanwhile Lucky (Tupac Shakur) resists the temptations of life on the street for a steady job as a mail carrier, and works to transcend the limitations of life in the 'hood by spending his weekends perfecting hip-hop manifestos in his cousin's recording studio. They are thrown together on a chance road trip from Los Angeles to Oakland--a trip destined to open their eyes to lives they had never imagined. Against the backdrop of urban despair and loneliness, they struggle to find love, hope and, ultimately, personal transformation.
