Eleven-year-old David Rockland (Joey Lawrence) arrives in Los Angeles from rural Colorado to spend an innocent summer with his father (Cliff De Young) and stepmother (Roxanne Hart). But as he tries to adapt to the quickened pace of city life and settle into his father's home, David experiences a gnawing sense of fear. The sounds of modern urban life overwhelm him--even the ordinary hum of the refrigerator or air conditioner, the rattle of the air ducts. With growing anxiety and apprehension, David becomes convinced that the house has a life of its own, that the inexplicable electrical "accidents" that have been terrorizing them will occur with greater frequency--and that he and his family are doomed if they don't act quickly to get away from the "voices in the wires."
