Short-lived but critically acclaimed, it kicked off an era of great high school comedies including Sixteen Candles.
For “square pegs” Patty Greene (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Lauren Hutchinson (Amy Linker), fitting into the round hole known as Weemawee High School is at the top of their freshman-year-objectives list. Patty is brainy and nearsighted, while Lauren is assertive and never at a loss for words. Thankfully, they meet two other “square pegs”: best friends Marshall Blechtman (John Femia), an aspiring comedian, and New Wave rocker “Johnny Slash” Ulasewicz (Merritt Butrick). Still, Patty and Lauren want to be “in” with the cool kids, like Valley Girl wannabe Jennifer DiNuccio (Tracy Nelson), ultra-hip LaDonna Fredericks (Claudette Wells), and head cheerleader and go-getter Muffy Tepperman (Jami Gertz). Somehow, they will learn how to fit in and make it, not just in high school but in life.
