At the fantastic Hollywood disco, The Zoo, excitement is in the air as the brilliant super-group The Commodores are scheduled to appear for a much-anticipated Friday night dance contest. From his booth overlooking the dance floor, disc jockey Bobby Speed (Ray Vitte) is well aware of what the band's appearance could mean for his career. But as show time draws near, they are nowhere to be found. In order to break into show business, singer Nicole Sims (Donna Summer) will stop at nothing, including crashing Speed's radio show. Just as determined, fifteen-year-olds Frannie (Valerie Landsburg) and Jeannie (Terri Nunn) have hitchhiked to L.A. to enter the dance contest and win the prize money for tickets to see KISS in concert. Noted for his many sexual conquests, The Zoo's owner, Tony (Jeff Goldblum), has identified a new target in Sue (Andrea Howard), a suburban housewife there to celebrate her fifth wedding anniversary. And because her conservative accountant husband Dave (Mark Lonow) has happily fallen victim to Jackie the Glitter Queen (Marya Small), Sue is grateful for Tony's attention. As the evening gets underway, The Zoo turns into a wild collection of couples who pair off and mix it up as they await the arrival of band. Even though the truck carrying the group's instruments is in the hands of Wrong-Way Floyd (DeWayne Jessie), ultimately everything is resolved once The Commodores and their gear finally arrive. And one way or another, everyone will live happily ever after -- at least until next Friday.
