Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) is a thirty-two-year-old law school graduate living off a meager lawsuit award and lacking some serious career motivation. Sitting on his rear end, watching sports on TV and eating take-out with his favorite delivery guy (Rob Schneider) is the extent of Sonny's existence. The only problem is that Sonny's girlfriend Vanessa (Kristy Swanson) is about to drop him like a bad habit. In a misguided attempt to impress his soon-to-be ex, he adopts five-year-old Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) under the pretense of being the boy's natural father. Faced with the challenges of sleep deprivation, bed-wetting and Barney, Sonny takes a hilariously unorthodox approach toward fatherhood. But when Social Services threatens to take away the son he has grown to love, Sonny surprises everyone by taking on the responsibilities he has avoided for so long.
